Weigh your catch – Freshwater

The aim of the ‘Weigh Your Catch’ feature is to enable recreational anglers the opportunity to get an estimation of the average weight (in kg) of their catch using only the total length (in cm) of the fish.  These estimates are derived from the length-weight relationship, a scientific formula which is often used by fisheries scientists and is unique to each species.

To use this information all you need to do is:

1.  Identify the species of fish you have captured.

2. Measure the TOTAL LENGTH (TL) of the fish from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail.

3. Record the TL in centimetres (cm).

4. Use the scale to determine the average weight of the fish at length.
