salmon-bagThe northerly winds and full moon tides have created perfect conditions this week for chasing salmon on the beaches!

The afternoon high tides have been perfect for fishing the beach with the northerly winds fanning the waves making conditions ideal for surf casting with metal slugs and its the perfect way to make the most of the winter weather.

All the local beaches have been fishing well this week as the swell has finally dropped off with the strong offshore winds. Levi's Beach in Warrnambool, Killarney and East Beach in Port Fairy have been the pick of the locations.

Further to the southeast the Peterborough main beach has been dirty and discoloured due to the river mouth opening last weekend. Hopefully it will clear this week as the river settles down and the seawater pushes back in close.

Dawn and dusk are the perfect times to chase these salmon with the afternoon high tide optimal as the gutters are full of water.  If you are thinking of heading to Killarney most of the fish have been up to the left of the rock wall on the point or in the next bay. Thirty to fifty gram metal slugs are perfect for casting off light spin gear.
